Daily dose of probiotics promotes healthy digestion

A daily dose of good bacteria is a good way to promote a healthy digestive system, a top nutritionist has said.

According to nutritionist Fiona Hunter, probiotics are an excellent way of preventing poor digestion, which makes 54 per cent of women feel sluggish and causes over a quarter to constantly watch what they eat.

Ms Hunter said that consuming probiotics every day "will help provide a regular supply of the good bacteria that help keep your digestive system healthy".

The expert also revealed a number of simple steps that can be taken to promote good digestive health.

She recommends eating a healthy, balanced diet with plenty of fruit, vegetables and wholegrain cereals which contain fibre.

"Fibre keeps your digestive system working efficiently and will speed up transit times so you are less likely to suffer from problems like constipation," she explained.

However, Ms Hunter noted that fibre can only be effective if a person drinks enough liquid.

"Water is obviously the healthiest thing to drink, but other fluids - things like tea, fruit juice and even coffee - also count," she noted.ADNFCR-1167-ID-18615678-ADNFCR
