Missed breakfasts fuel obesity increase

A growing trend for skipping breakfast is leading to an increased need for weight management, new research suggests.

Experts at Cancer Research UK has uncovered the vast numbers of young adults who are missing out on breakfast and snacking on unhealthy products throughout the day instead.

A poll of more than 2,000 people found that nearly half of 16 to 24-year-olds do not eat breakfast on at least two days per week.

In addition, 85 per cent snack during the day, with crisps, biscuits and cakes proving particularly popular.

Professor Jane Wardle, director of Cancer Research UK's health behaviour research centre, said: "We know obesity rates are rising in the UK and research has shown that this trend begins early in life.

"Children who are overweight or obese are likely to grow into obese adults whose risk of cancer and other diseases is increased because of the extra weight they are carrying."ADNFCR-1167-ID-18530564-ADNFCR
