Bubble baths bad for winter skin

Consumers who find they have problems with dry skin over the winter months can take a number of simple steps to help keep their skin hydrated.

Consultant dermatologist Dr Tim Clayton told the Guardian that the changes in temperature experienced by our skin as we move between dry, heated rooms and the chilly outdoors can cause the skin to be flaky and itchy.

His number one method for improving the skin is to give up smoking, as this dries out the skin and accelerates the ageing process.

He also advised against long, hot bubble baths, noting: "Excessive soaps and detergents can dry skin and remove the important waterproof protective outer layer.

"Use an emollient bath oil to improve the skin and do not use soap on your face," he recommended.

Consumers could also consider trying aloe vera, which is well-known for its moisturising and healing properties.ADNFCR-1167-ID-18447940-ADNFCR
