Supplements 'should be part of long-term routine'

People who do not eat a balanced diet could benefit from taking dietary supplements, experts have said.

A spokeswoman for the Health Supplements Information Service noted that busy lifestyles often make it difficult to have a healthy diet.

She claimed that people need to decide whether to change their diet or lifestyle to improve their levels of vitamins and nutrients, or whether to take food supplements in order to boost their intake.

"If you are someone who, for some reason, is unable to regularly eat a varied diet, then dietary supplements should be part of a regular and long-term routine," the expert said.

"However, it is important to be aware that although supplements may help protect against some illnesses and aid recovery, they cannot cure diseases."

The spokeswoman emphasised that vitamin supplements should not be treated as an "instant fix" and that consumers should never exceed the amounts recommended on the pack.ADNFCR-1167-ID-18394094-ADNFCR
