Vitamin C could be the key to boosting your immune system this winter, according to a health and diet expert.
According to Patrick Holford, vitamin C is "unquestionably the master immune-boosting nutrient".
"As well as supporting immune cell production and function, it has both anti-viral and anti-bacterial actions and can reduce inflammation," Mr Holford revealed.
The expert suggests that consumers who have indulged a little too much at a Christmas part should supplement their diet with an extra 2,000mg of vitamin C.
He also recommends 20 to 30 drops of grapefruit seed extract a day which, he reveals, is a powerful antibiotic, anti-fungal and anti-viral agent.
Mr Holford told Keep the Doctor Away: "It comes in drops and can be swallowed, gargled or used as nose or ear drops, depending on the site of infection."
A new study has revealed that vitamin C, ester C, zinc and echinacea are the main remedies relied upon to ward off winter colds.
