Iron is necessary in the body for helping to maintain healthy blood. It helps carry oyxgen to the tissues where it is used for the release of energy from food. Iron supplements can help with deficiencies that generally arise in women, children and elderly people where diets are either poor in Iron or stomach acid production decreases (such as when we get old) and iron absorption therefore decreases. Without Iron we wouldnt be able to produce haemoglobin, or red blood cells, which are vital components in passing oxygenated blood around the body.
