Healthy and flexible joints are critical for your pet's well-being. As animals age, they inevitably lose some of their ability to repair and regenerate connective tissue and cartilage. The result is often sore and stiff joints, and as a result the pet may show symptoms in the form of:
- Reluctance to walk, climb stairs, or play.
- Limping or lagging behind on walks.
- Difficulty rising from a sitting position.
- Yelping in pain when touched.
- Personality change.
Surgery can address some of these joints issues, but is expensive and often traumatic for the pet concerned.
Natural remedies include:
- Adding glucosamine sulphate and chondroitin to the diet, both as a preventative and as an on-going treatment for cats and dogs that exhibit signs of sore joints, particularly relating to connective tissue.
- Another substance that has anecdotal evidence of efficacy is CMO (cerasomal-cis-9-acetyl-myristoleate) which is often administered as a one-off course over four or five weeks following joint ruptures and strains.
